NHL on NBC and Twitter, too!

Tomorrow promises to be one of the most exciting Sundays yet for citizens of Hockeytown when the Red Wings play at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh for the first time since last year’s Stanley Cup Finals.

No Blackouts
This game will be available to everyone, since NBC is broadcasting it nationwide throughout the U.S. as its Game of the Week. Coverage begins at 12:30 ET.

Twitter
What does Twitter have to do with it? Well, for starters, it’s impetus enough for Kukla’s Korners’ Dirk Hoag to call it a “fresh incentive” for hockey fans to get on board.

During Sunday’s broadcast of the Red Wings – Penguins game on NBC, the NHL is encouraging fans on Twitter to enter the code (aka hashtag) #NHLonNBC into their updates for a chance to win a free subscription to NHL Game Center for the remainder of the 2008-09 season including the playoffs!

If you’re curious, but don’t yet know how to “tweet”, this article gives a good step-by-step overview on how it’s done.

Once you’re there, make sure to follow @DetroitRedWings and @FOXSportsDet (Fox Sports Detroit). Looking for more interesting, hockey-related Twitter accounts, read this past post from the Hockeytown Blog. If you’re just interested in following the conversation, go to Twitter search and see what everyone’s saying about the game.

If you have any questions about this promotion or what to do on Twitter once you get started, please feel free to share in the comments section. Oh, and Let’s Go Red Wings!
