As I write this, the Capitals lead the Winter Classic 2-1 after two periods of play. Having experienced the event first hand, I marvel at how the NHL turned a regular season game into one of the biggest showcases on ice in just four years. If you think the television visuals are impressive, the community events, venue décor and atmosphere are simply incredible.
While our fans may not be thrilled about seeing Sidney Crosby and the Penguins playing in the event for the second time, I haven’t heard a single negative word about how HBO has portrayed the Penguins and the Capitals on 24/7 – Road to the Winter Classic. The all-access treatment gave casual fans new insight into the rigors of NHL life and will be missed once the Winter Classic is over.
Some Red Wings players are paying attention more than others.
“I think with some of the personalities we have in the room that we’d make a good reality show,” said Patrick Eaves.
