The weekend started with the Red Wings holding a morning practice at Joe Louis Arena, the usual humdrum media availability and Mike Babcock’s daily press conference.
With two games, a 20th straight playoff spot and an 11th consecutive 100 point season up for grabs, the next 48 hours were going to be anything but normal.
This was one of those instances where I got to travel with the club, holding a pregame meet-up for 120 or so Social Media followers at Bailey’s in downtown Nashville. The opportunity to interact with our fans face-to-face is critical, especially when they have given up so much time and dedication following us all season long.
As far as brief observations go, Danny Cleary noted that this was the best game he has seen Justin Abdelkader play. It was nice to see Todd Bertuzzi drop the gloves not once, but twice. Jimmy Howard was outstanding in the third period, allowing the Red Wings to stay in the game and ultimately prevail in overtime.
All in all, a good weekend thus far and with sources reporting that Pavel Datsyuk could be back in the lineup tonight. That 10-3 loss at the hands of the Blues is hopefully now a distant memory.
